KELC

All about us

Set within the grounds of Southern Christian College, Kingston Early Learning Centre (KELC) offers an inclusive and progressive program for a maximum of 20 children aged 2 – 12 years of age.

Kingston Early Learning Centre strives to develop strong relationships between children, educators and families. We believe that open communication and partnerships between children, educators and families are vital to children’s development and wellbeing. Please contact at any time to discuss your child or any aspect of the program.

There are many ways that parents are encouraged to engage and share information with the centre including noticeboards and a parent suggestion box (located in the foyer).

The program reflects the ethics and philosophies of both Southern Christian College and the Kingston Early Learning Centre. The program encourages each child to actively engage in the world around them through choice, flexibility and within a play based environment.

Vision

Exploring God’s World Together

Philosophy

We believe each child is a unique creation of God; who is capable and supported to explore, discover and learn about God’s world.

Each child has the opportunity to engage in a holistic programme that enriches their individual learning within a small group, focused programme.

We believe the embedded relationship with Southern Christian College offers children a unique opportunity to engage in the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Primary Years Program (PYP) programmes; creating opportunities for children to develop at their pace with independence and self-confidence – accessing the greater school environment.

Each child’s family and culture is respected and supported as their first teacher. Families are encouraged to share in the life and experiences of the Centre and to develop relationships and roles with the Kingston Early Learning Centre community.

Kingston Early Learning Centre aspires to create a community of engaged and confident life-long learners who positively transform and impact on God’s world.

At KELC we offer the following programs:

2-6 years of age

The younger children engage in a holistic programme that enriches their individual learning and follows their interests, also providing opportunities for small and large group interactions, under the Early Years Learning Framework* (EYLF).

Children engage in the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Primary Years Program* (PYP) programmes through Units of Inquiry that run throughout the term, and the year.

See page 3 for more information on the EYLF and PYP.

7-12 years of age – Outside School Hours Care

Under the My Time, Our Place framework, the older children participate in a planning process for an individualised program of care, designed with 7-12 year old children in mind. They have opportunities for sport, cooking, board games, access to library and other SCC campus facilities, and are supervised by an experienced and qualified  educator.
